    In this course we will examine various approaches to teaching ESL.
    We will specifically focus on the Communicative Language Teaching Approach and
    within that framework we will be discussing how to plan units and lessons, develop
    role play and problem.solving activities and design language tasks for the second
    language learner.
    As part of the above more practically.-oriented aspect of this course, we
    will also be looking at those factors which influence planning and teaching. These
    include characteristics of the second language learner and some effects of task and
    setting on language development.
    Participants will be expected to read and discuss articles relevant
    to the various topics covered and to prepare materials suitable for their present or
    projected teaching situation.
