    Instructor's Objectives:
    To assist students towards the goal of being able to:
    1.
    Understand the nature of teaching English as a Second Language.
    2. Assess the needs of the E.S.L. learner.
    3.
    Establish an environment where E.S.L. teaching and learning can
    better occur.
    4.
    Initiate and direct appropriate E.S.L. activities.
    5.
    Promote on-going language-learning activities.
    6.
    Engage in meaningful professional development while pursuing a
    career in E.S.L.
    Course Objectives:
    Students will be exposed to:
    1.
    Some Basic educationaiprinciples which are especially important
    to T.E.S.L.
    2. A sampling of cultural variations which can be significant in
    T.E.S.L.
    3.
    Recent'apprOaches and methods from which the eclectic can draw,
    4.
    A fewteohnigues used in each of the four skills - listening,
    speaking, reading, and writing.
    5.
    The role of testing in T.E.S.L.
    6.
    Factors involved in goal selection, objective writing, and lesson
    planning.
    7.
    Principles involved in textbook and material selection.
    8.
    Factors involved in the second-language learner's success.
    9.
    Publications, organizations, and habits which can aid the E.S.L.
    teacher
    10.
    Specific ways audio-visual aids can assist the E.S.L... teacher
    and/or learner.
