    This course will examine the use of children's literature as a
    source for reading, writing, listening, speaking and observing
    in the language program.
    Participants will become familiar with the various modes of
    children's literature (the picture book, novel, folktaIe,
    poetry, etc.) and will become aware of the best books that
    are available for children.
    Participants will explore different techniques for helping
    young people experience literature, respond to literature, and
    value '
    tlt.erature. Some of the techniques used will be role-
    playIng,;stdPy.telling, choral speaking, writing, researching
    and using media.'
    While the-literature of the past will be examined, particular
    emphasis will be placed on contemporary materials.
