PREREQUISITE
60 credit hours (child pyschology is highly recommended)
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Education 464-4 is a course for students who are interested in exploring the foundations of and
current issues in the education of young children aged 3 to 8. Although this course is open to all
students with 60 hours of credit, a basic knowledge of child development is desirable.
OBJECTIVES
1.
To develop an understanding of the historical and philosophical underpinnings to the theory
and practice of Early Childhood Education.
2.
To examine current issues related to Early Childhood Education.
3.
To examine current research related to Early Childhood Education.
4.
To develop child observation skills and strategies.
REQUIREMENTS
Final grades will be based on a variety of sources that may include some or all of the following:
• Attendance and class presentation
• Weekly reading and journal entries
• In-class presentation
• Child observation assignments
• Term paper
• Midterm exam
