Course Content:

Students will explore the social, psychological and practical aspects

of Early Childhood Education.

The Role of the child in today's society: to explore their needs,

their contributions, and the day to day, "Quality of their lives,"

and how each affects their learning. To know and appreciate the

rights of children.

The learning process in early childhood: to examine the environ-

ment, readiness, physical, neurophysiological, and cognitive

development and maturation of children.

The role of the teacher in the learning process: to expand aware-

ness of the varied forms of teacher - as professional, the family

and student assisted learning. To develop an understanding of the

teacher as a monitor.

Learning programmes for the young child: to explore the wide

variety of choices available and to develop new learning programmes.

This is the required text for the course. An additional bibliography

A term paper on a specific area of Early Childhood Education.
