Early Childhood Education

This section of the course will be handled in an
eclectic manner as a survey of selected educational ideas and
practices regarding learning during the early childhood period of
growth and development. It will be required of each student to
attend class sessions, play a part in group discussions and
presentations and read to acquire background information in at
least one of the following areas:
1.
physical and social child development factors (birth to seven)
2.
first language acquisition
3.
the preoperational stage in cognition
4.
early childhood education programs- past and present

No text purchase is necessary. Some xeroxing of pertinent
articles will be advocated during the course. The completion of two
assignments will be required.
1.
An observationalreport on some aspect of a young child's behavior.
2.
A concise, thoughtful summary relating principles and practices in
an area or facet of early childhood education of concern and interest
to the student. General topics will be available as well as the
opportunity to contract to pursue a particular line of inquiry of
the students own. Ample guidaxce

the researching of topics will
be offered.
