Course Objectives:

The general objective of this course is to introduce you to

the contemporary educational media (ie.. audiovisual methods

and materials) and there impact on learning and teaching..

While the course has a practical "hands on" orientation the

rationale for the utilization of various media will be

explored..

Topics Include:

The basics of course design with particular reference to

educational media..

2..

The impact of technology on society and its implications

for education..

3..

Educational media - the "hardware".

A series of practical laboratory sessions and demon-

strations designed to make you proficient in the oper-

ation and utilization of audio visual equipment

currently used in schools..

Educational media - the "software"

A series of practical laboratory sessions and demon-

strations during which you will learn production tech-

niques for: overhead transparencies, photographs, video

tapes, slide - tape programs, graphics, audio tapes and

basic micro-computer programs..

Critical analysis of "educational" films and video tapes

and consideration of their potential for integration

into various curricula..

Format:

The course will consist of: lectures, (some guest lectures)

'discussions, practical hands on class activities, film and

video viewing and assigned readings and projects..
