COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is designed to enable students to plan and implement an elementary school physical
education program, as outlined by the Ministry of Education Integrated Resource Package.
Sessions will be both theoretical and practical in nature. Specifically the course will focus upon
program organization, teaching strategies, and curriculum content in the areas of games,
gymnastics, dance and outdoor pursuits. Many practical activities will be introduced which are
suitable for use in the school setting.
REQUIREMENTS
1.
Students will plan and develop a yearly physical education program for use in the schools;
2. Students will plan, teach and evaluate one lesson in the area of games, dance, and/or
gymnastics;
3.
Students will create a P.E. resource directory;
4.
Students will maintain a learning log;
5.
Students will actively participate in all activities including individual and group presentations;
6.
Students will complete all professional readings and written assignments.
