OVERVIEW OF THE COURSE
This course along with Educ. 479 is designed to assist teachers in planning and
implementing physical education programs for the primary and intermediate grades in
British Columbia schools. Educ. 459 will involve a practical consideration of instructional
strategies and curriculum planning in elementary physical education, particularly as it
applies to the games, dance and gymnastics components of the curriculum.
The curricular organizing principles are:
1.
To provide teachers with an understanding of different approaches to curriculum
development, instructional strategies, and pupil assessment in physical education.
2.
To examine various practical applications of the theoretical perspectives listed above,
especially as they apply to games, gymnastics and dance.
3.
To increase personal competence in physical education activities.
