PREREQUISITE
Educ 401/402 (or permission of the department with 60 credit hours).
DESCRIPTION OF COURSE;
This course deals with theory, curricula and methodologies in drama education.
Outline of Possible Topics:
• aims of drama education
• drama and theatre
• drama as methodology
• the roles of the teacher &evaluation
• integrating the arts
• creative drama
• improvisation
• storytelling
• choral dramatization
• docudrama
• anthology; film and video
• media & drama criticism
• readers' theatre
• scene study
• stagecraft
• puppetry
• theatre history
OBJECTIVES
1.
To introduce students to a variety of approaches, techniques and sources for drama teaching.
2.
To acquaint students with pedagogical issues related to drama teaching.
3.
To engagege in critical discussion regarding the theoretical grounding for drama education.
REQUIREMENTS
1. Theatre history project - 30%
2. Readers theatre project - 30%
3. Development of drama unit - 40%
4.
Leading warm-up exercises; active participation in class projects - 10%
