PREREQUISITE
Educ 401/402 (or permission of the department with 60 credit hours).
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course deals with theory, curricula, and methodologies in drama education.
OUTLINE OF POSSIBLE TOPICS:
• aims of drama education
• drama and theatre
• drama as methodology
• evaluation in drama
• group dynamics
• the dramatic classroom (K-12)
• creative drama
• improvisation
• vocal exploration through storytelling, choral dramatization, readers' theatre, & singing
• physical exploration through movement, mime, & mask
• production: collective creation, docudrama, plays, etc.
• scene study
• theatre history
• stagecraft
• dramatic criticism
• integrating the arts
• social & cultural issues through drama
OBJECTIVES
1.
To introduce students to a variety of approaches, techniques, and sources for drama teaching.
2.
To appreciate the value and power of drama in education and spotlight pedagogical issues
related to the teaching of drama.
3. To have fun while learning about drama education!
