DESCRIPTION
Major conceptions of educational value in the contemporary art and application of these ideas to the
development of visual arts programs in the schools.
TOPICS
Contemporary ideas about art and art education; developing personal approaches to art making:
journal, sketchbook, photography, clay, bricolage, sculpture, painting, etc; art and ecology; beauty
and western aesthetics; world art traditions and multicultural education; eastern aesthetics; gender
and art; the aims of art education; responding to art; teaching art; histories of art; individual and
collaborative learning; integrating the arts; evaluation of learning.
REQUIREMENTS

Class presentation of chapter from readings - 20%

Personal study of artist/movement/curriculum - 40%

Studio activities and projects - 40%
