PREREQUISITE
60 hours of credit. Class is conducted as a seminar/studio, prior background in art not necessary.
COURSE DESCRIPTION
Major conception of educational value in the contemporary arts and application of these ideas
to the development of visual arts programs in the schools.
TOPICS
• Current issues (including: Postmodernism, Feminism, Multiculturalism, and First Nations Art)
• Developing personal and collaborative approaches to art-making
• Teaching, responding to, integrating, and evaluating visual art
• Discipline-based art education and other curricula
• The aesthetic dimension
• Children and art
COURSE REQUIREMENTS
1.
Class presentation (chapters/ articles from readings) - 25%
2. Personal scrapbook/sketchbook/personal study - 20%
3.
Studio activity (including a lesson plan) - 25%
4. Final essay (re: curriculum proposal) - 30%
