COURSE DESCRIPTION
Major conceptions of educational value in the contemporary arts and application of these ideas to the development of
visual arts programs in the schools.
OUTLINE OF TOPICS
• Contemporary ideas about art and art education
• Art and the environment
• Developing personal approaches to art-making:
journal/sketchbook/photography/ claywork/
sculpture /construction/ bricolage, etc.
• The aesthetic dimension
• Postmodern perspectives
• Discipline-based art education and other curricula
