DESCRIPTION
This course examines some contemporary perspectives in art and art
education and applies these ideas to the practical development of visual
arts programs in schools.
OUTLINE OF TOPICS
Concepts of art; aims of art education; beauty and the aesthetic in art;
postmodernism; developing creativity; discipline-based art education;
social perspectives; children and art; practical issues in program
planning; gender issues; multicultural art programs; standards in art;
evaluation; education and popular art; art education and politics;
collaborative learning in the art class; understanding art; teaching art
in a pluralistic society; problems in art history; integrating the arts.

This class includes lectures, discussions, student presentations, and a
series of art activities (paint, clay, computer, etc.) of an individual and
group nature that express the key ideas of the course.
