PREREQUISITE:

DESCRIPTION:
This course examines major conceptions of value in the contemporary
arts and applies these ideas to the development of visual arts programs
in the schools.
TOPICS INCLUDE:
Traditional and contemporary approaches to art; fine and popular art; the
aesthetic dimension; art education in a pluralistic society; models of the
art curriculum; planning and defending programs in art education;
children's art and imagination; approaches to teaching and learning in
the classroom.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
Depending on class size, students will participate in class discussions,
give a class presenLation, write two papers, and participate in a studio
activity.
