COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The
objective of the course is to improve the students' written and oral expression
in the French language to a level required for the teaching of subjects in primary
and secondary French Immersion schools.
The course recognizes the students' already advanced knowledge of the French
language. It provides the students with techniques which will enable each one of
them to become aware and identify their own mistakes and inaccuracies in their use
of the French language. It proposes individual strategy developments to rectify
these weaknesses.
Emphasis will be placed on the development of new techniques addressed to specific
individual problems, and will focus on the acquisition of new linguistic skills.
The course will draw from the students' real life teaching experience in a classroom.
Grammatical review is an important component of the theoretical content of the
course.
COURSE MATERIAL:
No specific textbooks will be required.
Hand-out material will be provided in class.
Textbooks and Grammar books for reference will be discussed in class.
Students will also need a French-English, English-French dictionary (pocket editions
of Harraps or Larousse are adequate).
