Course Description
Throughout this course, students will examine their own second language(L2) learning. They will conduct action
research to explore the nature of second language learning and teaching as it applies to their personal experience as
well as their L2 classroom. Through active participation in both oral and written forums, students will set out to
enhance their French language skills as well as investigate the role of culture in the classroom. This inquiry approach
is aimed at providing deeper insight into the needs of their future second language students.
Objectives
• students will investigate current theory about second language learning and teaching
• students will examine their own experiences and beliefs about learning a second language
• students will gather authentic documents to create and share a unit that teaches cultural sensitivity
• students will present a short activity that demonstrates a current pedagogical practice
• students will participate in classroom activities that enhance oral/written L2 skills and promote an appreciation for
French culture.
