COURSE DESCRIPTION
The exploratory nature of this course, aimed at possible Core French teachers at all levels, permits
the investigation of and participation in a variety of activities. These interactions will allow
students to enjoy a wide range of language experiences and to understand the pedagogical rationale
supporting them. The cultural bias of the activities will lead to a better understanding of French as
a living language in constant change spoken by Francophones around the world.
OBJECTIVES
1.
To enable students to assess their own language needs.
2.
To familiarize students with the current pedagogical principles of second language teaching,
including assessment and evaluation.
3.
To familiarize students with a number of commercial programs currently in use in B.C. schools.
4.
To present students with strategies for teaching Core French in a communicative / experiential
manner.
5.
To engage students in a wide variety of French experiences involving the four skills of listening,
speaking, reading, and writing. These will be accomplished through activities using
conversation, discussion, debate, reporting, music, television, radio, newspapers and
magazines, role-playing, and co-operative activities.
6.
To reach an appreciation of French culture through the class activities.
REQUIREMENTS
Participation in all activities and a desire to be immersed in a French experience is essential.
