TEACHING ABOUT JUSTICE, LAW, AND CITIZENSHIP ?

There are numerous strategies for incorporating law-related, social justice, and citizenship dimensions into the
formal and informal school curricula. This course explores a variety of methods for teaching legal concepts,
citizenship and social responsibility, and critical thinking processes to students from grades 1 to 12, specifically
using strategies such as case studies, mock trials, literature, mediation, negotiation, and justice circles. Students
are introduced to innovative ways to engage and challenge students around issues of social justice and
citizenship responsibility. The course also provides an overview of online law resources and website
information.
PREREQUISITE(S):
60 hours of credit including 6 hours in Education courses. Teaching experience is
recommended.
