LEGAL CONTEXT OF TEACHING

• This course is designed to provide students, teachers, counsellors and school administrators with a
comprehensive understanding of the legal issues and potential legal liabilities encountered in the Briti
Columbia public school system. Special attention is devoted to the numerous legal aspects connecting
education. Topics include: constitutional foundations and the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedot
understanding student, parent and teacher rights; violence in schools; freedom of expression, the Cha
censorship in schools; and the legal considerations concerning copyright and the Internet.
