EDUC 445-4 (EDUCATION)
LEGAL CONTEXT OF TEACHING
C100
This course is designed to provide students, teachers, counsellors and school administrators with a
comprehensive understanding of the legal issues and potential legal liabilities encountered in the British
Columbia public school system. Special attention is devoted to the numerous legal aspects connecting
law and education. Topics include: Constitutional Foundations and the Canadian Charter of Rights and
Freedoms; understanding Student, Parent and Teacher Rights; Violence in Schools; Freedom of
Expression, the Charter and Censorship in Schools; and the legal considerations concerning Copyright
and the Internet.
PREREQUISITE:
60
credit hours.
