COURSE OBJECTiVES
By the end of this course, you should be able to:
1)
discuss sociological and psychological factors associated with
immigration, multiculturalism and second language acquisition.
2)
have a better understanding of the cultural background of major
ethnocultural groups in Vancouver.
3)
relate theoretical considerations to specific practical implications for
our schools.

READINGS
There is no required text for the course. All readings provided are
required. Although we may not have enough time to discuss all the
readings in class, the concepts in them will supplement what we will be
discussing and are necessary for total understanding of the course.
COURSE FORMAT
The format of the course will change as the course progresses - from
intercultural awareness exercises to lectures to guest speakers. In all
cases, student participation in discussion
is
strongly encouraged.
