    This course is designed for individuals working in multicultural settings in
    education, social service, health care, counselling, and so on.
    OBJECTIVES:
    Through assigned readings, lectures, and active participation in class and group
    discussions, students will acquire an informed position on the cultural and
    structural issues affecting the process of education, including:
    a.
    strategies of working in multicultural settings, inc. handling
    of conflict
    b.
    development/revision of materials for teaching about differences in
    cultures and values
    c.
    home-school communication in the multicultural community
    d.
    sociopolitiëal and economic issues '.iwmulticüiturai education
    GROUP DISCUSSION TOPICS:
    a.
    Canadian cultural identity
    b.
    psychological E 1
    sociocultural variables in education, inc. Native Indian
    education
    c.
    the education of cultural minorities in Canada
    d.
    community control of schools
    e.
    bilingual education - educational and political concerns
    REQUIREMENTS: Students will be graded on:
    a.
    individual curriculum project - develop/modify existing materials, or
    analyze cultural content of existing materials
    b.
    participation in discussion groups, including serving as group leader in one

    general classroom participation
