PREREQUISITE:
60 credit hours
This course examines a number of philosophical questions relating to curriculum, most particularly the
fundamental questions of what constitutes a good educational curriculum and how one justifies it as such.
In pursuing those central questions a number of other key educational concepts are examined, including
knowledge, emotions and intellect. Consideration will also be given to the arguments for and against the
inclusion of a number of standard curriculum subjects.
REQUIREMENTS
Attendance at 2, two hour lecture sessions each week
Assignments:
1 short paper (2-3 pages) at end of week 2 (10%)
3 short analytic pieces at end of week 4 (30%)
1 essay (6 pages or more) at end of week 8 (30%)
1 in-class exam (2 short pieces) (30%)
