PREREQUISITE
Educ 220 or Psyc 250 or Psyc 302, and Educ 401/402
COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course will introduce teachers to concepts, practices and issues related to the nature and
nurture of high ability learners. Participants will learn to recognize and challenge these students.
Participants will prepare assignments based on required reading prior to each class. This writing
becomes the basis for in-class activities with classmates.
OBJECTIVES
For students in this course will include that they:
1.
Understand practical and theoretical conceptions of giftedness.
2.
Recognize the behavioral characteristics of gifted students and their sources.
3.
Design learning experiences appropriate for individual highly able learners.
4.
Understand the procedures used to select students for differentiated instruction.
REQUIREMENTS
• Paper/Project - 40%
• Curriculum Activity - 10%
• Notebook - 40%
• Interview- 10%
READINGS
$20.00 will be charged for materials fee. The fee will be used to cover the cost of photocopying
required readings. These will be available for photocopying in the Centre for Educational
Technology. There will be no required text.
