    This course will introduce teachers to concepts, practices and issues related to the nature and nurture of gifted
    individuals in educational settings. Participants will meet with a gifted student, as well as collecting knowledge and
    skills needed to prepare learning experiences that will challenge these students in ways that will optimize their
    development.
    OBJECTIVES
    Participants in this course will be able to:
    1.
    Describe the nature of giftedness in terms of current conceptions and definitions.
    2.
    Recognize behavioral characteristics of gifted students.
    3.
    Design learning experiences appropriate for highly able learners in the regular classroom or
    special programs which enhance thinking and learning skills within and across curriculum areas.
    4.
    Describe the types of instruments and the procedures used in the design of a process for
    selecting students for gifted programs.

    Discuss the rationale for modified learning activities and/or programs for
    g
    ifted students.
