COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course has been designed to introduce teachers to concepts and
practices related to the nature and nurture of gifted potential in educational
settings. Participants will meet with a gifted student, as well as collecting
knowledge and skills to meet the exceptional educational needs of these
individuals.
OBJECTIVES
Participants in this course will be able to:
1. Describe the nature of giftedness in terms of current conceptions and
definitions.
2.
Recognize behavioral characteristics of gifted students (intellectual,
academic, creative, social and emotional).
3.
Describe the types of instruments and the procedures used in the design
of a process for selecting students for gifted programs.
4. Design learning experiences appropriate for highly able learners in the
regular classroom or special programs which enhance thinking and
learning skills within and across curriculum areas.
5.
Discuss the rationale for modified learning activities and/or programs for
gifted students.
