COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is intended for senior students or practicing teachers who wish to
understand a variety of counselling and psychoeducational interventions in schools.
The first part of the course will examine a basic repertoire of counselling and problem
solving responses that can be used in (a) regular classroom interactions; (b)
discussions with students, parents, and colleagues; and (c) classroom meetings. The
second part of the course will examine the teacher's role in psychoeducational
interventions in areas such as study skills/strategies, substance abuse, crisis
intervention, classroom management, student-to-student interactions, interactions
with school and community counselling services, and interaction between the school
and students' parents/guardians.
COURSE REQUIREMENT'S

Research task and class presentation. (Study of a specific counselling issue in a
school setting, and presentation in class of your findings.) (40%).
