    Counselling for the Classroom Teacher

    LOCATION: on campus
    This course is intended for senior students or practicing teachers who
    wish to explore the area of school counselling and develop some skills
    that can be applied within the classroom setting. A combination of lectures,
    discussions, practice exercises and seminars will be used to explore such topics
    as: the role of a counsellor, counselling theories, effective helping skills,
    the use of standardized tests and other "diagnostic" aids, group discussions
    as a means to solve classroom issues, effective communication with parents,
    counselling techniques with exceptional children and creative approaches
    to maintaining discipline.
    COURSE REQUIREMENTS:
    1.
    Weekly small projects, requiring integration of classroom ]earnings
    with practical situations.
    2.
    Participation in a small group seminar on one selected topic.-
    3.
    Three or four short multiple choice quizzes.
    Those students who wish to achieve first class standing in the course:
