EDUC 422
Course Description:
EDUC 424 will provide students with practical experience teaching young children at risk for acquiring
learning disabilities. The students will gain skills and teaching techniques that will allow them to work
effectively with children and youth who are struggling readers and writers. The students will work one
to one with a child to assess and deliver a individualized program over the three week summer tutorial.
A Tutee will be provided for the student.
Course Objectives:
On completion of this course the student will be:
• able to assess a child's reading and writing using various tools and techniques
• able to deliver a one on one program to meet the child's learning needs
• exposed to various assessment techniques and tools used for determining learning needs in the
area of reading and writing
• exposed to various teaching techniques and programs that are used to support developing reader
and writers
