PREREQUISITE

COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is designed to:
1.
Teach students to perform informal assessment of reading, writing and math problems.
2.
Teach students to understand how to set up an individual educational plan for a student
with learning disabilities.
3.
Teach students to teach a child or adolescent with learning disabilities.
4.
Teach students to monitor and evaluate progress of the students with learning disabilities.
STRUCTURE OF COURSE
During sessions July 6 through July 30 each SFU student will tutor a student with learning
disabilities. The first two lecture sessions (June 30 and July 2) will prepare students for initial
assessment and will also deal with teaching strategies that may be utilized to teach tutees. Daily
tutoring sessions will be preceded by lectures designed to guide and support SFU students through
their tutoring sessions and will provide guidelines for assignments. The last sessions (August 4 to
August 6) will be lecture format.
REQUIREMENTS
Assignments will include reports on assessment and tutoring. Details will be provided at the first
class meeting.
