COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is the
practical extension of EDUC 422: Theory of Learning Dis-
abilities. As such, it focuses on the assessment of learning disabled (LD)
students' academic problems, the provision of appropriate instructional pro-
gramming, and the evaluation of remedial strategies.
Topics covered include: educational difficulties of
LI) students; effective
assessment procedures; the development of individual educational plans;
strategy interventions; record-keeping, and reporting assessment results to
parents and teachers.
A major course requirement is the
tutoring of an
LI)
child or adolescent. EDUC
424 students are responsible for locating and tutoring suitable students during
this course As a laboratory course, the program will be based on an
interactive process between students (SFU), tutees and instructors at SFU. A
considerable amount of time, outside of class, will need to be set aside for
tutoring during the months of February and March.
This time is arranged with
the tutee and his/her family. More information about the tutoring program will
be provided at the first class.
