AN INTEGRATED PROGRAM
During the Summer Semester, students have the option of taking EDUC 422
and EDUC 424 as a combined program. The content for both courses is
integrated in a core lecture—discussion series during May and June. In July
learning disabled youngsters are brought on campus two mornings a week for
individualized tutoring by EDUC 424 students.
One emphasis of the program is the development of consultative skills, an
area emphasized by the recent Royal Commission on Education and the Year
2000 document. An ancillary part of the integrated EDUC 422/EDUC 424 is
the 'parents-as-partners' program; and opportunities will be provided for
collaborative consultation with parents about the progress of the child.
Detailed course requirements will be outlined on the first day of class, May
8th. As far as possible, assignments parallel the work-tasks of teachers (e.g. an
initial assessment, an IEP).
