    SPECIAL MINOR PROGRAM IN LEARNING DISABILITIES

    Course Objectives:
    422 This course focuses on imparting knowledge of the conceptual and theoretical
    issues in Learning Disabilities.
    At the end of the course, a student will demonstrate knowledge of:
    1.
    the historical origin of the L.D. field.
    2.
    central issues and problems in the field, past and present
    3. theoretical attempts to explain Learning Disabilities, past and present.
    The student will demonstrate the ability to:
    1.
    evaluate critically the theories put forth to explain L.D.
    2.
    weight the implications (pro's and con's) of the central issues and problems.

    50% on exam
    • 424 This course focuses on imparting practical skills in diagnosis and remediation
    of Learning Disabilities.
    1.
    that at the end of the course, student will be able to use informal assess-
    ment methods to screen or diagnose learning problems.
    2.
    that student will be able to work out a systematic task analysis and
    concept analysis of an academic problem.

    20% Initial report: Assessment and Plan for tutoring.

    Ed 422: Meeting once / fortnight
    Class will be divided Into 2 groups for tutorial purposes.
    Each group will meet Dr. Wong on alternate weeks.
    Ed 424: Students will go to designated lab-sites every morning
    4days per week, Monday to Thursday.
    Students who live In or near Vancouver will go to Kerrisdale Elementary
    in Vancouver. (Number of places = 22). Time- 8;so4.m. 6

    Students who live in or around Surrey will go to Johnson Heights in
    Surrey. (Number of places = 22/23). Time •- :30 a.m. to 11:00A.M.
    All SFU students in the L.D. Minor will tutor kids on a one-to-one
    basis under supervision.

    Only students who have put down their names to join the L.D. Minor
    on Dr. L. Prock's list or Stan Auerbach*s list will be provided a
    place in the 424 lab.
