DESCRIPTION
This methods course is for middle and secondary teachers. Its intent is to provide a thorough
introduction to Social Studies as a curricular area, within a professional and collaborative academic
setting.
OBJECTIVES:
-to familiarize students with the content, organization and problematic nature of the Social Studies
curriculum in British Columbia.
-to develop a critical appreciation of the place of Social Studies in the educational experience and lives
of children and young adults.
-to create, in a collaborative environment, engaging and lessons and units including a variety of
engaging activities, assessment strategies, extension ideas, and resources.
'to examine the Social Studies curriculum through a variety of lenses and approaches, such as critical
thinking, diversity, integrated study, social justice, gender and
subject-specific models, environment, citizenship and global perspectives.
