Goals
The goals of the Secondary School ELA teacher should include the following:
The enrichment and discipline of the verbal imagination. The study of the literary arts and their history
The imparting of a command of the intricate logics of discourse that language embodies and grammar
codifies
The overseeing and building on the process of writing, speaking, viewing and representing so that
students learn to organize and reflect on their thinking
The initiating of students into possible worlds that may enlarge self-understanding in a positive and
ethical manner
