DESCRIPTION
Goals
The goals of the Secondary School ELA teacher should include the following:
• The enrichment and discipline of the verbal imagination . The study of the literary arts and their history
• The imparting of a command of the intricate logics of discourse that language embodies and grammar
codifies
• The overseeing and building on the process of writing, speaking, viewing and representing so that students
learn to organize and reflect on their thinking
• The initiating of students into possible worlds that may enlarge self-understanding in a positive and ethical
manner
