ELIGIBILITY
This professional inservice practicum is a follow-up course to Education 496: Developmental
Supervision of Student Teachers. The practicum is available only to classrom teachers who have
completed Ed. 496 (or 490 in 84-3) and who have agreed to sponsor an Education 405 student
teacher during the spring semester. REGISTRATION MAYBE LIMITED BY DISTRICT DUE TO
DISTRIBUTION OF FACULTY ASSOCIATE SUPERVISORY LOADS. PLEASE CHECK WITH
MR. STEVE OLLIVER AT 291-3167 FOR FURTHER INFORMATION.
OBJECTIVES
Participants in this inservice practicum will effectively:
(a)
Implement the developmental supervision model with an Education 405 student
teacher;
(b)
Contribute to inservice seminars focused on collegial support and problem-solving;
(c)
Develop, implement and evaluate individualized plans for professional growth in the
four dimensions of the school associate's role;
(d)
Communicate with the Inservice Associate regarding development of supervisory
skills;
(e)
Complete a reflective self-evaluation of professional growth during the practicum.
COURSE FORMAT
The practicum has three components: (i) classroom implementation of developmental
supervision with a student teacher; (ii) regular inservice seminars with other Education 407
school associates to discuss and resolve supervisory problems and to provide collegial
support; (iii) enrichment activities such as peer classroom visits, skills practice sessions and
guest speakers. Content of seminar agendas will be determined cooperatively by the
group.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS
(a)
Attendance and participation in seminars and enrichment activities;
(b)
Completion of at least four professional development contracts, each focusing on
one dimension of the school associate's role;
(c)
Participation in consultation visits with the supervising Inservice Associate;
(d)
Completion of a reflective self-evaluation at the end of the semester.
EVALUATION
THE PRACTICUM IS EVALUATED ON A PASS/WITHDRAW SYSTEM.
FEE REBATES
Participants will receive a tuition fee voucher for supervising an S.F.U. student teacher.
