    PREREQUISITES
    Prior to entering Education 379-3 students must successfully complete approximately
    40 hours of instruction in conflict resolution offered by Surrey Continuing Education
    (or equivalent and permission of the instructor).
    DESCRIPTION OF COURSE
    The course provides a framework for teachers to initiate and implement a conflict
    resolution program in their classroom or school, based on a critical analysis of
    programs in Canada, U.S. and New Zealand. Students will examine approaches and
    methods of implementation, and monitor the effectiveness of the program using the
    study guide "Implementation Through Informed Reflection".
    OBJECTIVES
    Students will critically analyse and evaluate conflict resolution programs and select
    strategies to implement in their current teaching assignment.
    Specifically
    - analyse the philosophical basis for conflict resolution in the schools.
    - develop a Canadian and international perspective on the history of conflict
    resolution.
    - read selected articles on conflict resolution and construct a bibliography and
    list of resource people.
    - study a model for implementation of conflict resolution strategies in
    classroom, schools or other educational settings.
    - implement selected conflict resolution strategies.
    - monitor the effectiveness of the implementation plan using the
    "Implementation Through Informed Reflection" study guide.

    STUDENT ASSESSMENT AND GRADING PROCEDURE
    Assessment and grading will be based on:
    - successful completion of at least two workshops in conflict resolution offered
    through Surrey Continuing Education (e.g. Introduction to Conflict Resolution,
    Managing Anger in Educational Settings, Negotiation Skills for Educators,
    and/or Mediating Conflict in the Educational Setting) and participation in 3-4
    seminar sessions during Fall 91-3. (25%)
