ST: INNOVATIVE APPROACHES TO TEACHING LITERACY
Drawing on recent developments in literacy theory and research, Educ 383 looks at new approaches to
engaging students' imaginations in learning the tools of literacy with the ideas of the Russian
psychologist Vygotsky. We examine the historical roots of literacy (a very odd type of behavior—no
other animal engages in anything like it). The course is designed for in-service and pre-service teachers.
PREREQUISITE:
60 credit hours.
