Focus on Inquiry Process and Curriculum Implementation.
EDUC 383-3 is the credit portion of the Ministry of Education sponsored provincial Social
Studies in-service program. Teachers enrolled in the credit portion are expected to attend
the conference as delegates and to complete academic assignments.
The focus of the conference is inquiry learning in Social Studies and the implementation of
the new curriculum.
PARTICIPANTS
This course is open to both elementary and secondary social studies teachers. A portion of
the institute will focus on the specific needs of primary, intermediate and secondary
teachers.
COURSE CONTENT
The course content will be the same as the institute program. The agenda will include:
plenary sessions (inquiry processes, evaluation, implementation); workshops geared to
specific grade levels (e.g. research/report writing, integration through inquiry,
communication and critical thinking); small seminar discussion groups; publishers'
displays; informal interaction. Credit registrants will also be expected to participate in an
additional one hour session each day (4:00 - 5:00 p.m.) (On Monday, Aug. 24 this session
runs 4:30 - 6:00 p.m.)
ASSIGNMENTS
Teachers enrolled in Educ. 383-3 must complete readings and design an implementation
plan for their school/district. This major assignment must be submitted NO LATER THAN
September 3, 1987. Information on the assignment will be mailed with the pre-reading
package in mid-July.

Set of pre-reading materials, cost approximately $ 15.00.
COURSE REGISTRATION
Admission to the university must be gained prior to specific course registration. Course
registration must be completed prior to June 26. Contact the Registrar's Office (291-3224)
for information on Admissions. Contact the Faculty of Education (291-3395) for course
registration once admission has been obtained.
On campus accommodation is available for Out of town registrants. All institute registrants
will pay a separate fee for lunches.
