ISSUES IN DIVERSITY IN EDUCATION

Prerequisite/corequisite: 60 hours of credit. Students who have received credit for EDUC 441,
EDUC 382-4 Special Topics from fall 2003-3 on, cannot take EDUC 382 for further credit.
Description: This course provides students with a broad overview of the impact of social diversity on
education. This course will explore a range of diversity topics—including cultural, ethnic, racial, gender,
socio-economic, and sexual identity differences—in an effort to conceptualize the problematic
trajectories through which diversity manifests in the educational system. Finally, the course will
consider, through a critical lens, how best to accommodate diversity within the current socio-political
environment.
