COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is designed to provide participants with a framework for working with children with
language/learning disorders. A perspective on assessing language/learning disabilities will
be offered, with particular attention paid to the interface between learning problems and self-
esteem. We will also explore specific language skills that provide a foundation for effective
communication in school, social and work situations. Participants will be taught specific
strategies for working with groups of adolescents. We will also focus on the relationship
between oral and written language and ways to teach written language as effective
communication. The course will be highly interactive and practical in nature.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
To explore the interaction among the issues of language, learning and sense of self in
students with language/learning disorders.

To provide a framework for assessing and planning for students with language/learning
disorders.

To develop strategies to develop effective oral and written language skills in adolescent
learners with special needs.
d)
To assist participants to work collaboratively to meet the needs of students with
language/learning disorders.
