COURSE DESCRIPTION
During this course students will review theoretical and research perspectives on behavioural problems commonly seen in
general education classrooms. In addition, a framework for understanding and intervening with children who present
challenging behaviours will be examined. A variety of learning activities and teaching formats will be used to apply
theoretical content to practical classroom problems. Students will be encouraged to examine their own beliefs and
educational philosophies to determine how their views impact their actions in their classrooms.
INSTRUCTOR PROFILE
Dr. Epanchin is an Associate Professor in the Department of Special Education at the University of South Florida and
coordinator of the teacher training programs in her department. She has conducted numerous summer institutes in special
education through the University of Victoria and the University of British Columbia in the areas of mainstreaming
exceptional students, secondary learning assistance, and behaviour management. She is the author of several books about
students who have emotional, social and behavioural disabilities.
COURSE REQUIREMENTS
Active participation during class time will be required in addition to completion of assigned readings. To demonstrate
