COURSE DESCRIPTION
This course is intended for students going to Quebec who wish to:
a)
improve their oral and written proficiency in French, and
b) develop strategies that they may apply in the French Second Language classroom.
Students will use their own language learning experience as a foundation for developing these
strategies.
OBJECTIVES
• To examine the way you personally learn a second language (1,2).
• To develop your own L2 teaching philosophy based on personal experience.
• To create a repertoire of second language activities based on your own learning experiences.
• To develop strategies for covering curriculum that stimulate L2 learning in the FSL classroom.
• To analyse the current research on second language learning and instruction.
REQUIREMENTS
2 sessions at SFU, then on-line from Laval University. Final session at SFU is optional (see below).
• Attendance and participation in two sessions before the trip to Quebec.
• Review and brief presentation of a research article on second language learning.
• Analysis of oral and written growth while in Quebec in the form of six guided journal entries
(to be sent via email to the instructor).
• Creation of five lesson plans based on your own learning experiences in Quebec
(to be submitted as attachments via email).
• Short Oral Presentation /OR/ Submission of a 3-page essay on August 14th.
