course: Classroom as Inclusive Community
This course will be of interest to educators, community workers,
families, concerned citizens who care about children with
disabilities, visible minorities and children of dysfunctional families.
An innovative response to the challenges of the 90's. Learn to develop
an action plan that builds on your personal gifts and the students'
strengths. Gain a new perspective on inspired, creative teaching.
Become a better teacher, parent, community involved person - a
teacher in search of excellence.
Specific topics will include:
a.
The vision of inclusive education and a philosophy of
integration.
b.
M.A.P.S. - The successful action plan process developed
by the Centre for Integration and.-Community.
c.
Circle of Friends - the building of people-based support
and the importance of relationships.
d.
Programme modification and "hands on" classroom
strategies.
Practicums on M.A.P.S., guests speakers and shared learning with
parents and teachers will be special features of this course.

Assignments:

A two page reflection on the participants understanding of
integration.
2.
A daily journal of participants personal reflection on the day's
events.
3.
Participate in small group learning daily.
4.
Participate in a practicum with a designated family.
5.
Submit a proposed plan of action to stimulate understanding and
educational change in the participant's home community.
