    COURSE DESCRIPTION
    This Institute will explore the historical and cultural background of gender and equality issues as well as gender equity in
    the workplace, especially educational settings. Emphasis will be placed on non-sexist classroom practices including
    analyzing curriculum, evaluating learning resources, and developing classroom and school strategies.
    INSTRUCTOR PROFILE
    Katherine Pepper-Smith
    has taught in northern B.C. and downtown Toronto. She received her M.A. ('86) and Ph.D.
    ('92) in Philosophy of Education from the University of Toronto. She specializes in philosophical analyses of educational
    gender issues. Katherine currently supervises Malaspina student-teachers during their six-week placements, offers Gender
    Equity workshops to local school districts, and will teach a Feminist Ethics course at Malaspina College in the Fall.
    Mary Madsen
    holds a Master of Education degree in Women's Studies Curriculum Development from SFU where she
    taught as a Sessional Instructor in the Women's Studies Department for four years. Recently she has taught W.S. 380
    (Women's Health: Men's Medicine) atMalaspina College. She Co-Chairs the Status of Women Committee in Nanaimo
    School District where she currently works as a Resource Room teacher.
