Course # EDUC 372-3
MAINSTREAMING STUDENTS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
?
Victoria, B. C. August 2-6, 1988
Description:
This Institute, offered by a team of outstanding Canadian educators, will deal with
the "why" and "how" of integrating any student into the regular school system, including
people at risk of all ages: dropouts, street kids, or any group that has been missed by the
educational system.
The Institute will provide training and practice in how to use the MAPS action
planning system and the 'circle of friends' concept in designing community integrated
settings. The class itself becomes a community in which people can truly explore their own
values, goals and aspirations.
Instructors:
Dr. Marsha Forest and Mr. Jack Pearpoint
Location:
University of Victoria, Victoria,
B. C.
Marsha Forest is Director of the Centre for Integrated Education in Toronto and the
Director of Literacy Training for Frontier College. She is a professor at McGill
University. Jack Pearpoint is President of Frontier College, Canada's oldest adult
education institution. His area of expertise is in dealing with people at risk, and his
"Beat the Street" program is making effective in-roads dealing with the issues and
concerns surrounding street kids across Canada.
