Minor in Education
DESCRIPTION
What is intercultural or international education? This course will explore ideas of education with an
intercultural or international focus. Students will be introduced to models of cultural understanding,
explore ideas around culturally relevant pedagogy, and examine multicultural and anti-racist education
practices.
COURSE OBJECTIVES
Participants will:
• examine the concepts of intercultural and international education
• investigate some of the major issues in intercultural and international education
• analyze approaches which are culturally responsive and responsible
• integrate cultural, global and multicultural content across the curriculum
• examine models of cultural understanding
• explore approaches to creating a culturally rich environment that nurtures all students
• engage in field experiences and interactions with international students to examine their own global
perspectives
• investigate ways teachers and schools, and curriculum can become more international and
intercultural
• examine teaching practices and education systems in different cultural contexts
EXPECTATIONS
Participants are expected to:
• approach investigations from an open minded and critical perspective.
• maximize their learning and support the learning of others by actively engaging in class activities.
• demonstrate competency in completed assignments
